Emergency Evacuation Plan

Our community is nestled in the forested foothills so fire danger can be high (especially in the summer) and wildfire is always a risk. And, because neighboring communities along Nemo road have been impacted by forest fires over the years, the board has developed an evacuation plan to prepare residents for an emergency situation.

Please review these guidelines thoroughly and regularly with all members of your family and be prepared to follow this plan should a fire or other emergency situation arise. Should you have any questions about this evacuation plan, please contact a board member.

  • Stage 1: Evacuation Alert

Residents will be warned that they should prepare to evacuate.

This alert will typically come from fire and rescue and/or the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office initially and may be supplemented by your neighbors.

This advance warning allows homeowners to begin an orderly preparation to leave the affected area voluntarily within a specified time period.

  • Stage 2: Evacuation Order

Everyone in the affected area will be told that in the interest of their own safety and considering the risk, they are now ordered to leave the area.

In our community, the principal access routes of Kings Road and Red Deer Road will serve as the primary evacuation routes.

It is recommended that families establish a designated meeting place outside of the development in case of separation during evacuation such as a friend or other family member’s home, a workplace, or a church.

In the event that Kings Road and/or Red Deer Road are blocked or impassable or you are unable to leave due to other circumstances, residents should proceed to our established safety zone at the commons area near the pool.

Assembling here will allow residents and/or fire officials to ensure that:

    1. All members of the evacuated community are safely accounted for.

    2. Provide additional and/or necessary emergency services.

    3. Disperse important information and announcements.

  • Stage 3: All-Clear

When the emergency is under control, the evacuation order will be retracted.

Residents will be allowed to return when the danger has passed.

Keep in mind that there is always a possibility that the danger may return– for example, new ignitions may spark or the prevailing winds could increase or change. In such cases, the evacuation order may need to be reinstated.

  • Stay Safe

Because safety– especially in an emergency situation is our top priority, the Board has reviewed this plan with members of the Doty Volunteer Fire Department to ensure they are aware of our safety strategies and safety zone gathering area.

The SCCE Board adapted this plan from Firesmart: Protecting Your Community from Wildfire issued by Partners in Protection an Alberta-based coalition of professionals representing national, provincial, and municipal associations and government departments responsible for emergency services, land-use planning, and forest and resource research.
