Letter from the President

Dear Neighbors,

We live in the premier subdivision in the Rapid City Area. I am writing in my capacity as President of the Homeowners Association (HOA) to address what the board is working on.

First a little about myself. We have three kids Jessica, John, and Jack. They will be out of the house in about 5 years, and we will be empty nesters. Everyone who lives here is friendly and the upkeep of the residence makes living here a joy. We had been looking at properties up here since our wedding in 2005. My wife Andrea and I moved into South Canyon Country Estates in July of 2013.

The South Canyon Country Estates HOA holds the meeting on the fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 pm at the Doty Fire Department community center. We have been looking into getting the covenants rewritten to bring them up to date. We want them to be in line with the wishes of the residents of South Canyon Country Estates. We are hoping to provide an option to allow your Water/HOA payment to be set up as an auto-withdrawal through our accounting software. More details to come soon.

If you have concerns or questions, please contact any of your HOA Board members or feel free to attend an HOA meeting.

Meet the Board

Lonnie Steinmetz – Vice President

“I have lived in SCCE for 9 and a half years now and have enjoyed living here. I look forward to being an advocate and voice for our subdivision as the HOA Vice President. I am also a member of the covenant and architectural committee. As a member of the covenant committee, we are hoping to promote a few future changes to the covenants, such as updated building materials like siding and roofing materials.

One of the things I love most about SCCE is our picnic shelter, which allows us to have a gathering for our families, friends, or coworkers. In my opinion, we really do live in a wonderful location with amenities that other comparable subdivisions do not offer.

To tell everyone a little bit about myself; my wife and 2 children like to go camping and ride our dirt bikes during the summer months. I am an avid hunter and try to get out into the woods at any chance I get. I am a helicopter and airplane mechanic by trade, and I love just about anything with an engine on it.

As a friendly reminder since we live in the Black Hills Fire Protection District, before the use of a fire pit at your residence you are required to obtain an annual campfire permit. There is more information about this and a link to the South Dakota Wildland Fire website located in the friendly reminders section of the website.”

Kort Herman – Secretary

“My family has lived in SCCE for a little over 5 years (December 2017). My favorite community features include the pool, recreation area, the sunsets, and the feeling of living out of town but being only minutes from work, shopping, recreation, and dining. I enjoy hiking and mountain biking. It’s awesome being only minutes from great hiking and biking.”

Michael Montileone – Member at Large

“As a member at large, I see firsthand the work the HOA is doing on behalf of the SCCE community. That combined with the great community members makes SCCE a great place to live. Thanks to all!”

Marlowe McDowell – Member at Large

“My family and I have lived here since 2014. One of my favorite things about living in South Canyon Country Estates is the seclusion of being away from town. The views are beautiful.

My favorite activity is the BBQ. I enjoy cooking for people and it allows us to get to know each other a little. Some of my favorite activities are watching baseball and playing billiards. If I have one tip to our neighbors, it would be to drive slowly through the neighborhood and follow the posted speed limit.”

John Santana– Member at Large

“I’ve lived here for 25 years as I closed on my house March 1st, 1998.  My favorite recreational activities are kayaking and off-roading with my side-by-side.”
